Martin Gollbach, Chief technology officer at SBRS (CTO)accepted the Polarstation award on behalf of the company.

In 2026, SBRS GmbH was honored by the German Design Council with the prestigious German Innovation Award 2026 in the category “Excellence in Business to Business – E-Mobility Technologies.” The award recognizes the company’s development known internally as the “PolarStation” – an ergonomic high-performance charging point specifically designed for use in demanding environments.

The award was accepted on behalf of the company by Martin Gollbach, who marked this special occasion.

A Technological Response to Current Challenges

The PolarStation addresses key challenges of modern electromobility:

  • Higher charging capacities: E-trucks require charging capacities of up to 1 megawatt.
  • Longer charging times: Continuous and thermally stable charging processes are particularly necessary in heavy-duty transport.
  • Operational robustness: The infrastructure must function reliably even under harsh climatic conditions.
  • Accessible usability: Ease of use for all user groups, including people with disabilities, is essential.

To meet these requirements, the PolarStation incorporates a range of technological solutions:

  • Liquid-cooled, lightweight charging cables enable high charging performance while ensuring ease of handling.
  • A newly developed cable management system supports structured and low-barrier use.
  • A high-resolution E-Ink display ensures optimal readability, even in challenging weather conditions.
  • An integrated heating system guarantees functionality at low temperatures.
  • The ergonomic arrangement of the control elements allows comfortable operation, including for users with limited mobility.

Jury Recognizes Combination of Performance and User-Friendliness

The jury of the German Innovation Award also highlighted the concept of the PolarStation. In its statement, it emphasized that electromobility places high demands on charging infrastructure—especially in demanding environments and in the heavy-duty sector.

The PolarStation stands out due to its robust design and ergonomic construction. The easy-to-read E-Ink display and integrated heating system enable reliable operation even under extreme climatic conditions. At the same time, the liquid-cooled charging cable ensures safe and easy handling while preventing overheating during long charging processes. The sophisticated cable management system also guarantees barrier-free usability, benefiting users with disabilities.

This combination allows the solution to unite high performance with user-friendliness and sustainability—particularly in harsh operating environments.

Innovation as a Key Part of the Transformation

With the recognition of the PolarStation, SBRS GmbH underlines its role as a provider of innovative solutions in the field of electromobility. The development demonstrates how technological innovation can actively contribute to the practical implementation of the transition toward sustainable mobility solutions.

At the same time, the PolarStation highlights that high-performance charging infrastructure must not only meet technical requirements but must also integrate aspects such as ergonomics, accessibility, and operational reliability as essential components of modern systems.

Indicative results based on model assumptions

This calculator provides indicative savings estimates for fleets investing in depot charging infrastructure. The model reflects the impact of depot optimisation, smart charging and energy management across Shell’s integrated network.

This scenario assumes a heavy-duty truck operating 116,000 km per year over 5 years, with 75% depot charging and 25% on-the-go charging supported by a semi-public, energy-optimised eDepot. Actual results will vary depending on market conditions and customer-specific factors.
